The Friday Harbor Film Festival’s winter series of audience favorites presents “Alive Inside” at the San Juan Island Grange on Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m.

“Alive Inside”, a story of music and memory, was a 2014 American documentary film directed and produced by Michael Rossato-Bennett. The film premiered in competition category of U.S. Documentary Competition program at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on January 18, 2014.
It won the Audience Award: U.S. Documentary at the festival. The film deals with the subject of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and how music therapy can help and ease their suffering.
After seeing this film at the Friday Harbor Film Festival, Robert Demar, Francie Hansen, Beth Helstein, Mariluz Villa, Janice Fisher and other members of the community, started campaigns to provide music to memory loss patients. Using the non-profit Music and Memory they began accepting donations for refurbishing donated I-pods for residents of the Life Care Center of Friday Harbor and private care homes.
Robert Demar said seeing what happens when the patients hear “their” music from the past is what inspired him.
Friday Harbor Film Festival founder Lynn Danaher said this kind of change is exactly what she had in mind when she started the film festival.
Consulting with family and friends the volunteers compile music from an individual’s past.
Friday Harbor High School and Skagit Community College fulfilled their community service hours collecting donated I-pods, Laptops with WIFI and C.D. players to give to patients at the Life Care Center. To help call Janice Fisher at Life Care Center:378 2117.
Free health screening

The Lions Health Screening Unit will be in your neighborhood providing free health screenings for blood pressure, glaucoma, diabetes, sight, hearing at MarketPlace on April 1 and 2, Friday and Saturday, noon- 5 p.m.
A night at Hogwarts

San Juan Island Library invites all wizards, witches and muggles to a night at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We leave from Platform 9 3/4 to enter into the world of Harry Potter.
Kids of all ages and families are welcome to join in the fun. Meet many Hogwarts Professors including Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Dolores Umbridge, Severus Snape, Pomona Sprout, Sybill Trelawny, and Rubeus Hagrid. And you might see Moaning Myrtle!
House sorting will be the first order of business followed by various activities including a Potions Class with Professor Snape, a Wand Making Class with Dolores Umbridge, Harry Potter Trivia with Professor McGonagall, and a Magical Creature Hunt with Rubeus Hagrid for the little ones.
Visit Azkaban Prison to have your photo taken, try your hand at Quidditch Pong and don’t miss our Hogwarts resident magician. Come as your favorite Harry Potter character! Costumes are encouraged and there will be Contest for Best Costumes.
The judging divisions are Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary School age, Middle and High School level, and finally the Adults. Prizes will be awarded to the best in each division.
Butterbeer and goodies from Honeydukes will be served courtesy of the Friends of the San Juan Island Library.
Estimated time: two hours to fully experience Hogwarts! Registration is not required for this special event.
