The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:
July 13
• A Lopez Island deputy was called regarding a neighbor’s dog creating a nuisance. The dog’s owner was cited for “a dog running at large.”
• A man on Lopez reported receiving threatening texts and voice messages from a former co-worker. Several options were offered, and the man wanted a deputy to simply tell the co-worker to stop. A statement was taken and an information report was completed.
• A Lopez Island deputy was called to check a vehicle parked on private property. The homeowner observed the vehicle via a web cam, and did not recognize it. The “trespasser” was an artist who was painting a picture on the property. The property owner asked the subject to leave. No further action was taken.
• A San Juan Island deputy was dispatched to a report of malicious mischief/trespassing in Friday Harbor. Upon further investigation it was believed the suspect attempted entry into the garage with negative results.
• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on Orcas Road. The driver was cited for speeding, going 53 in a 35 mph zone.
• A small purse was found in grass near the Orcas Island Library. It contained no identification and was turned into the library in case the owner comes for it.
• A Lopez Island deputy was called to a local church regarding a subject trespassing. The subject was contacted and asked to move along.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor gave a subject a trespass warning for the Port of Friday Harbor property. The subject was advised that if he returned he would be arrested for trespassing.
• Deputies responded to the Sandpiper Condos to help with a civil “stand by.” While at the residence a white male was identified inside the apartment and placed in custody for an outstanding warrant out of Skagit County.
• A deputy responded to the 100 block of Airport Road, Lopez Island, for a vehicle in the ditch. The driver said he went into the ditch and got stuck while trying to turn around. There was no evidence of driver impairment. He was issued a ticket for not having valid plates on his vehicle.
July 14
• A deputy initiated a traffic stop in Friday Harbor and the driver was issued a speeding infraction.
• A deputy in Eastsound issued an infraction for cell phone use while driving and a warning for improper use of a safety belt.
• A Friday Harbor woman reported multiple violations of her domestic violence no contact order. She provided the suspect’s text messages where he acknowledged what he was doing was illegal. The case and evidence were presented to the prosecutor for issuance of a warrant.
• A report came in of on water vessel contact northwest of Jones Island. A vessel inspection was completed and it was concluded that there were no violations.
• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an intoxicated person. It was discovered that the person was under court order to not consume alcohol. This matter was referred to the probation department for violation of the court order.
• A deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 2500 block of Center Road, Lopez Island. He identified additional violations after the stop and issued the driver a ticket for speeding, having no driver’s license and for having no vehicle liability insurance.
• Deputies in Eastsound did a welfare check of a possibly suicidal person. That person was uncooperative, denied making statements and declined any assistance. She did not fit the criteria for a legal hold. A report was made.
July 15
• A deputy was dispatched to a possible verbal argument aboard a boat in the Olga area. The boaters were getting away as the deputy arrived and heard no verbal argument. An informational report was taken.
• Three vehicles were cited for parking in the trailer only parking at the Obstruction Pass boat ramp.
• A deputy stopped a motorist in the 1300 block of Fisherman Bay Road, Lopez Island and issued him a ticket for having expired vehicle registration and no proof of liability insurance.
• A vehicle was pulled over for speeding, 52 in a posted 35 mph zone. The driver was cited.
• A deputy issued a motorist a ticket after he saw him speeding in the 1100 block of Ferry Road on Lopez Island.
• The reporting deputy was contacted at the sheriff’s office in reference to a civil issue that occurred in the San Juan Island area. The reporting deputy did a civil standby for the involved parties.
• A deputy retrieved a dog from an Aleck Bay Road resident after the dog came on private property. The dog had no collar, and efforts to identify the owner are on-going. The dog was placed in the Lopez Island kennel until the owner can be identified.
July 16
• A parking citation was issued for parking in the boat trailer only parking at the county boat launch on Orcas Island.
• A Lopez Island deputy was called to a business in the village after a disruptive customer was harassing customers and employees. That customer had been removed from the premises prior to the deputy’s arrival.
• A Lopez Island man reported being forced off the road twice by the same person and vehicle. The driver was continually yelling at the reporting person until the other driver drove off. The matter is under investigation.
• Deputies responded to a Friday Harbor business to investigate the possibility that a person with an outstanding warrant was inside the store. The subject was later located at a residence off Blair Ave.
July 17
• A Lopez Island business owner requested information on how to deal with a customer who has been causing a disruption in the store on several occasions.
• A deputy was dispatched to the San Juan Island area in reference to a family dispute. The reporting deputy made contact. One subject was transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
July 18
• A Lopez Island deputy was called to a hit-and- run crash that destroyed an OPALCO switching box along Lopez Sound Road. The crash caused a localized power outage beginning about 4 a.m. The crash exposed live power lines carrying 72,00 volts of electricity.
