Anacortes artist Lanny Bergner forged an internationally renowned career by turning mundane materials — brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel mesh, wire — into alluring, three dimensional works of art.
Known for mixed-media sculptures and fiber art, Bergner’s art will be presented in a solo exhibit by San Juan Islands Museum of Art, beginning Friday, April 26, with an opening reception, 5-7:30 p.m. at the IMA gallery, 232 A St.
Using only pliers and scissors, Bergner transforms industrial woven mesh into semi-transparent chambers, vessels and angular constructions. His art is in numerous collections, including the Seattle Art Museum and New York’s Museum of Art and Design. Info, 370-5814, or www.sjima.org.
