The Pioneers scored early and often in dealing the Wolverines a 47-14 defeat, Friday, on the road at Nooksack Valley.

Friday Harbor fell behind early, trailing 26-0 at the end of the first quarter and 33-0 at the half, and were forced to play catch up from there on out.

“We made some early mistakes and that cost us,” Head Coach Darin Scheffer said. “We’re young, and sometimes it shows. Eventually, I think we’re going to get there.”

With the loss, the Wolverines fell to 1-3 on the season. They are home to host Lynden Christian, Friday, in their third clash of the year against their 1A Whatcom County rivals. The Lyncs were shutout by the Pioneers, 40-0, earlier this season.

The Pioneers wasted little time in picking apart Friday Harbor’s defensive secondary, tallying three touchdowns before the break through the air, to go along with a pair of first-quarter TD rushes

Nooksack Valley quarterback Trevon Myhre tossed four touchdown passes, two to veteran wide receiver Trey Handy, who gained 199 yards on nine receptions, and tallied 282 yards through the air without an interception.

After the break, Dylan Radden slashed through the Pioneers defense to return a third-quarter kick off 80 yards and put Friday Harbor’s first points on the board. Radden, a sophomore, amassed 115 of the team’s 229 rushing yards, on nine carries, and grabbed three passes for 64 yards as well.

Late in the fourth quarter, Friday Harbor quarterback Donald Galt bulled into the end zone from a yard out in posting the Wolverines second touchdown of the game. Galt, who gained 39 yards on five carries, completed 6-of-15 pass attempts for 64 yards, with three interceptions.
