Norma Barrett | Passages

1942-2024

Norma Barrett, 82, of Friday Harbor, WA, beloved, wife, mother, and cousin, was called home to God on June 27, 2024 at Providence Medical Center in Everett. Born Norma Stansberry, on December 29, 1942 in Seattle, WA, she was the beloved daughter of Norm and Eileen (Heins) Stansberry. Norma grew up with her cousins who became the siblings, she never had.

While in High School, she met Thomas William Barrett in 1960, who, unbeknown to her, was to become her future husband and love of her life. Norma was very active in her local community. She participated in the Water Festival of Seattle Seafair (a gala event) and Wedgewood Community Club achieving the titles of Seafair Princess and Miss Wedgewood, respectively. She joined Pan Am as a flight steward to fulfill her desire for travel.

Norma and Thomas married on October 21, 1967 and two wonderful sons and a daughter were born to them. The Barrett Family lived in Seattle, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Friday Harbor. Following her spell with Pan Am, Norma embarked into the retail fashion industry, starting off with retail management and then owning and operating her own business, The Golden Threads for twenty years. Norma had impeccable taste in fashion and looked exquisite in whatever she wore. She retired from her business just 15 years ago, but not from her activities in her beloved community. She continued as the member of the Friday Harbor Walkers, St. Francis Church and as a volunteer of The San Juan Island Theatre.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents and cousins: Jerry and Kay. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Tom; their children: William, Timothy and Lisa; grandchildren: Emelee, Kyle, Kristen, Dallin, Ashley, and Carson; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and cousin: Mick.
