Edward Strum | Passages

February 26, 1937 – March 17, 2025

Edward Charles Strum was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on February 26, 1937; he died in Santa Rosa, California on March 17, 2025, shortly after celebrating his 88th birthday.

He died at peace and at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Ed was a brilliant, warm, sociable, and gentle man, with a wonderful sense of humor and a true passion for life. He was a proud graduate of Yale University; he built a long and successful career at IBM; he travelled the world; ran 25 marathons including Boston, Paris and Big Sur and several local, Friday Harbor 8.8 loop runs; he enjoyed the game of chess and was an avid football fan.

In retirement, he pursued his passion for the theater, writing, directing and performing onstage. Towards the end of his life, he devoted much time to his writing. He published his final work, “A Sensory Feast”, shortly before his death; he had many more stories to tell and was writing until the very end of his life.

Ed is survived by Carol, his wife of 52 years and by his sisters Sandra and Leslie, his brother Richard, his four children: Nicolette, Bradley, Heather and Matthew and by his eight grandchildren: Katherine, Madison, Trevor, Gavin, Olivier, Mira, Vivienne and Serena.

We will miss him and remember him always. Rest in Peace our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather.
