The almost 3,400-mile distance from Friday Harbor to Parkland, Florida does not lessen the emotional impact on students of the recent school shooting. Students from Friday Harbor middle school and high school came together on March 14 at 10:30 a.m. to take part in the national silent demonstration honoring victims from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Citizens of Friday Harbor lined the sidewalk next to the high school track field to cheer on students as they walked. After several laps, the students gathered in the middle of the field to share a few moments of silence in honor of their peers across the country.

On March 24 the students will participate in the national “March for Our Lives.”
