On Aug. 27 at around 9:20 p.m., the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call for a single-vehicle accident with the car on fire. One person was successfully rescued by the first Deputies arriving on scene and transported by San Juan Island EMS to be flown off island for further care. San Juan Island Fire & Rescue was able to extinguish the fire.

Tragically, the other victim of the accident passed away as a result of the collision. Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy and loss of life. It appears that both of the victims were visiting San Juan Island at the time of the incident.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office appreciates and is so grateful for our partners at San Juan Island EMS, San Juan Island Fire & Rescue, and our dispatchers and responding Deputies who worked through the night to take care of this tragedy and our community.
